Just Jeep

tracks

The Reefton area offers some of the best Jeeping in the South Island, ranging from bush creeks to big mountain rivers through to muddy bush-lined historic logging and mining tracks. Not only is the off-road driving great, but the scenery is amazing and unique and often, your destination offers historic remains to explore.
Just Jeep 2011 follows on from the successful Just Jeep 2009 event - held over Labour Weekend in 2009... Here's some photos of trips from that event.

West Coast Jeeping

Just Jeep gives you the opportunity to drive tracks that suit both your driving experience and your Jeep's capabilities - to this end, we have three grades of tracks and on each day of Just Jeep, we will be offering a variety of full day trips in each grade to choose from. Sign-up sheets with full information on each trip will be available for sign-up from 4:00PM on the Thursday at the Just Jeep Camp.

Every Jeep/driver must have the following:

  1. All drivers to have current driver's license
  2. Current Registration and Warrant of Fitness
  3. Proof of insurance (3rd party minimum) with public liability inclusion
  4. Fire extinguisher mounted in a readily accessible place within the Jeep
  5. First aid kit
  6. A spare tyre the same size diameter as your tyres, e.g: if you have 33" tyres, then your spare must also be 33"

In addition to the mandatory requirements above, each grade of track/trip has some further requirements:

Grade Jeep Notes/Requirements
1 For stock Jeeps Rear recovery point (see FAQ)
2 For slightly modified Jeeps Rated recovery hooks front and rear + Snatch Strap or recovery rope. Some tracks may limited* to snorkel equipped Jeeps (dependant on river levels)
3 For seriously modified Jeeps Rated recovery hooks front and rear, mud tyres, snorkel and full recovery equipment - some tracks may be limited* to winch-equipped Jeeps

Jeeps must be in sound mechanical condition as you don't want to break down on the off-road tracks.

We strongly suggest that each Jeep carries a PRS radio - this ensures that you know what's happening during the off-road trips (see FAQ)

The Just Jeep trip leaders will carry a mountain radio on those more remote tracks where there is no mobile phone reception.

* Some tracks may be limited to Jeeps with specific equipment, but there will be tracks in the same grade that will only require the standard equipment listed.
